It’s the end of the first week of 2017, and the new years resolutioners are out in groves. Many of whom will not make the commitment and stick with becoming a better version of themselves. The gym that I personally go to is very large. There is an 1/8th mile track along with numerous cardio machines. It has three pools a hot tub and a sauna, it is a very good sized gym. One problem that is has is that the free weight area is pretty small. We have only two squat racks, three flat bench presses, one cable cross, one leg press machine, and some other odds and ins. I’ve noticed new faces this week, lots of new faces. That is just awesome! These people take time out of their day to come and lift heavy things over their head multiple times for fun. The problem lies when new people do not have a plan, and walk around aimlessly not really knowing what is going on. This honestly irritates the regulars especially in the free weight area. I come to you today offering help as one of those regulars. My first recommendation is get a plan. Get a plan that you know exactly what you are going to be doing that day and stick to that plan. Consistency is key, remember that. The gym is also is not a time to socialize, get in there have some fun but get it done. Don’t be afraid to do some research, youtube is a gold mine for fitness advice. Some of the advice is good some is not. All of the fad diets and such are bullshit, don’t buy into them. Also think of it like this, this is for the long run. This isn’t just till summer. No. This is for the rest of your life. Whether the plan is a push, pull, and leg split or a full body workout. It does not matter. The regulars hate when newbies are on the squat rack doing sets to infinity, get in there and get it done. The biggest thing is to get a plan and then figure out what works for you.
Have a good one
and a happy new year!
